In a cornfield just off an anonymous and small town of the United States is found a body horribly mutilated. More, around the body are present, to form a circle, some crows impaled on old Indian arrows. In a town under shock, Aloysius Pendergast, FBI Special Agent , begins to investigate searching a serial killer. But against him there is not only the killer, but also police and citizens who deny the presence of a serial killer and, even worse, they want to keep it away from an ancient and terrible secret that belongs to the past of their town.
According to the chronological order of the authors, this is the fourth novel in which appears the agent Pendergast. The description of the town, as well as its history, let us think that places and stories belong to reality. Great from authors is the ability to mix the paranormal reality easily and smartly. We are face to face with the harsh daily life in town, between doubts and problems with the addition of the brutality of the murderer. But behind the scenes of this apparently ordinary town there are mysteries that have their roots in a dark past that nobody talks about because it is damn. It is very engaging follow the story of the killer without losing sight of this secret that hovers like a song, with an exciting final of book, in a fusion between past and present.
